Wilce Student Health Center
A building that aspires to heal people should heal its own context. The Wilce Hall Student Health Center expands its own program, and takes advantage of a “campus improvement” budget bonus in order to create a pedestrian thoroughfare along the east side of the building. This improves north south connections between residence halls to the north, and the main campus common areas.
The existing building features a matrix of precast panels, smooth and uniform. The addition subverts the expected efficiencies of precast by proposing a series of super rough, unique, corrugated panels, encouraging students to touch the building. With Smith-Miller + Hawkinson Architects, 2012
