Listen Up!

Listen Up!

“Listen Up!,” transforms sounds from the Chelsea community into light and color while projecting them into a space within The Shed gallery (a newly designed art center located in Manhattan’s Hudson Yards), collapsing four spaces occupied by four diverse publics into a single layered and evolving space. The project records real-time audio of nearby spaces, abstracts the sounds into color and light, and projects the light and broadcasts the sound into an occupiable space constructed in the gallery. The installation is part of our ongoing series of Listening projects which aim to correct/redress the privileging of vision over other modes/aspects of embodied sensation by staging experiences beyond what’s seen, to produce effects that must be heard, felt, tasted, and lived. 2018.
